ADVERTISE WITH THE SPORTS AMERICA

Reach readers who read to the end.

The Sports America reaches readers who follow American sport closely enough to read a ten minute article about it. If that is your audience, there are a few ways to work with us.

Why Advertise Here

Attention, Not Impressions

Our readers arrive for a specific article and finish it. An advert on a page someone is actually reading is worth more than one on a page they bounced off in four seconds.

A Capped Page

We limit units per page, so your creative is not competing with six others for the same eye.

Permanence

Sponsored articles stay live. Our archive continues to earn search traffic long after a campaign window closes.

A Clean Neighbourhood

We decline the categories listed below, so your brand is not sitting next to content you would not want to be associated with.

01

The Audience

Our readers are predominantly in the United States, and most arrive directly or through search rather than through social feeds. They come for a specific story and tend to read it to the end, a smaller audience than a highlights account and considerably more useful to an advertiser with something to explain.

Current traffic, subscriber and engagement figures are in our media kit, which we will send on request along with the period they cover.

02

Display Advertising

Standard IAB units run in the header, in-article and sidebar. We cap the number of units per page, because an unreadable page is worth nothing to either of us. Creative should be JPG, PNG or HTML5, under 150KB. We do not run autoplay audio, expanding units or interstitials.

Newsletter Placement

A single sponsor slot in our weekly email: a short block of copy, an image and a link. One sponsor per issue, so you are not competing for attention inside the email.

04

Sponsored Articles

We'll write, or publish, a piece about your product, service or organisation. It runs under a clear Sponsored label with your name on it, and stays live permanently.

Sponsored posts are labelled, and outbound links carry rel="sponsored", Google's requirement for paid links.

Anyone offering a guaranteed do-follow placement is selling you a liability; an unmarked paid link risks a manual action against both sites.
05

Partnerships

Longer arrangements are possible: a sponsored series, season-long presenting rights on a section, or coverage built around an event. Tell us what you are trying to achieve and we will propose something, rather than sell you a package that does not fit.

What We Don't Accept

×
Unlabelled paid links, link insertions into existing articles, or private blog network placements
×
Adult content, and illegal products or services
×
Medical or financial claims we cannot verify
×
Cryptocurrency and trading promotions
×
Advertising aimed at children
×
Anything designed to be mistaken for editorial
"Advertising does not buy editorial coverage, influence it, or protect against it."
Sponsors see their own material before publication and nothing else. This is set out in full in our editorial standards, and we would rather lose a campaign than make an exception to it.

How A Sponsored Article Gets Made

1
Brief
You tell us the audience, the message and the action you want readers to take.
2
Angle
We propose a subject that our readers would actually choose to read, which is usually not the one that leads with your product.
3
Draft
We write it, or you supply copy and we edit it to our house style.
4
Your Review
You check the draft for factual accuracy about your business and approve it. This is the only approval stage, and it covers your material only.
5
Publication
It goes live with the sponsorship label, your name, and the correct link attributes, and we send you the URL.
Allow around two weeks from brief to publication for a written piece, less if you are supplying finished copy.

Guidelines For Supplied Copy

✓
Write for a reader, not for a search engine. Copy that exists only to carry a keyword gets edited or returned.
✓
Claims about your product need to be ones you can support if asked.
✓
No more than two outbound links, both to pages you control.
✓
Around 800 to 1,200 words works best. Shorter reads as an advert; much longer rarely gets finished.
✓
We reserve final say on the headline, so that it matches what the article delivers.

Booking, Payment And Cancellation

Bookings are confirmed by email and invoiced in advance for a first campaign. Creative should reach us five working days before the live date.

Campaigns cancelled more than ten working days before the live date are refunded in full. Inside that window, we will reschedule where we can. Sponsored articles are not removed after publication, since the label and the permanence are what make them honest.

Questions We Get Asked

Can we have a do-follow link?
No. Paid links carry rel="sponsored". This is not a negotiating position, it is Google's published requirement, and ignoring it puts your domain at risk as well as ours.
Can the sponsored label be made smaller?
No. It sits above the headline at byline size. Readers who feel misled do not convert, so the label protects your campaign as much as our credibility.
Can we advertise without sponsored content?
Yes. Display and newsletter placements are available on their own.
Do you offer link insertions into existing articles?
No, under any circumstances. Editorial articles are not for sale, in whole or in part.

Rates & Booking

Rates depend on format, duration and placement. Tell us what you have in mind, your budget range and your timing, and we will come back within five working days with a rate card and a proposal.
